J.Rocc - No Stoppin' Mixtape

In 2015, Stones Throw Records asked me to illustrate artwork for a J.Rocc mixtape created in partnership with West End Records and Salsoul records, exclusively mixing tracks from the two labels' Boogie and 80's funk back catalogues.

I wanted the CD artwork to look like it was a snapshot of a massive messy pile of old 80s records. So for the cover artwork, I gave prominence to the two iconic West End and Salsoul record sleeves, then continued the theme of 80s sleeve artwork into J.Rocc's name and portrait and the title of the mix tape.
For the CD booklet, I imagined new sleeve spines for some of the records on the mixtape.
The back cover completed the "pile of records" theme. The illustration of the guy peeking over the sunglasses in the bottom left is based on a friend of mine - I wanted to see what he'd look like with a Jheri Curl.
